The purpose of this study is to investigate the research trend on empathy in the social science literature by utilizing text analysis through version 3.5.1. It collects the 345 abstracts of research papers in the RISS database which contain ‘empathy’ in their title or keywords which were published in after the year 2000. It firstly divides the period into 3, namely 2000-2009, 2010-2014, 2015-2018 and investigates the research trend and subjects. The results of this study are as follows. First, in light of the trends by academic discipline, Education(49.6%) is the most popular field, followed by Interdisciplinary Research(9.0%), and General Social Science(7.5%). Second, the number of studies on empathy has been increased steadily since late 2000’s, especially after the year 2010 it increased very rapidly. Third, during the period 2000-2009, the education field was ranked top with focus on student/education, business administration field with focus on corporation/ consumer has emerged during the period 2010-2014, and psychology field with focus on counsel/ acceptance has been decreased in period 2015-2018. Fourth, contrasting to the early period the importance of ‘empathy’ itself has been decreased in the later periods. Fifth, it can be concluded that empathy researches are mostly concentrated on education/ management/psychology/multi-culture. Based on theses results, we suggest some implications and propose the further research avenues for the study of empathy.
현대사회의 주요한 특징 중의 하나는 공리주의적 질서가 해체되는 것과 함께, 도구적·경제적 합리성이 정서적·도덕적·문화적 감수성으로 대체되고 있다는 것이다. 이로 인해 사회를 바라보는 초점도 분석적 방법과 이성적 접근에서 공동체의 연대와 공감으로 변모하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 최근 공감연구의 동향과 특성을 분석하고 향후 공감연구의 전망을 논의하는 것이다. 구체적으로 통계 프로그램 을 이용하여 2000년 이후 학술연구정보서비스(RISS)에 등재된 사회과학 분야 국내학술지논문 중 제목이나 주제어에 ‘공감’이 포함되어 있는 연구논문들의 초록의 텍스트를 분석하였다. 총 345편의 공감연구를 대상으로 시대별 주제, 연구내용, 핵심 결론의 추이를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공감연구를 가장 활발하게 연구하는 학문분야는 교육학(49.6%)이었고, 다음으로 복합학(9.0%)과 사회과학일반(7.5%)이다. 둘째, 공감연구의 수행 건수는 2000년대 후반에 이르러 빠른 증가세를 보이고 있다. 셋째, 2000년대는 공감연구 주제의 절대다수를 이루는 것이 학생/교육과 같은 교육학의 영역이었음에 반해, 2010년대에 들어 기업/소비자와 같은 경영학의 영역이 등장하였으며, 2010년대 후반에는 기존에 존재하던 상담 영역이 위축되었다. 넷째, 2000년대에 비해 2010년대의 공감연구에서는 ‘공감’ 자체에 대한 연구가 감소하고, 공감과 연계된 타 영역의 연구가 나타나기 시작했다. 다섯째, 전 시기의 공감연구를 통합하여 보았을 때 교육/경영/심리/다문화 등으로 연구 분야를 특정지울 수 있다. 이는 향후 다양한 분야에서 다각적으로 공감에 대한 연구와 공감의 개념을 적용한 연구가 출현할 수 있음을 의미한다.
